Question and Answer Time!

Here at Olive & Thistle, we LOVE meeting people - it’s part of the reason we got into filming weddings - our love of film, our love of people and our passion for discovering their stories. When we meet with prospective couples they often come with a list of questions for us about what we do and how we go about doing it. We LOVE these as well, it gives us the chance to talk about what we’re passionate about! Wedding films are a collaborative effort between us and the two people getting married, and we’re proud to be upfront and honest about our process and how we go about filming your day. Here are some questions and answers that we’ve come across over many a coffee with our potential couples.

You do drone work as part of your wedding package, but what if the weather is bad on the day? Can you still fly?

Our wedding package price does include drone use for your wedding, be it city or rural, castle or backyard. That being said we cannot fly in inclement weather, both for the safety of our equipment but of course for those on the ground. But what we do offer at Olive & Thistle is a drone guarantee* - if we can’t fly on your wedding day we will come back to your venue, on our own time, to get some fantastic drone footage of the area, so no matter what, you’ll have drone footage in your films!

*Drone guarantee applies to venues a reasonable distance from us - but frankly if we’re travelling really far for your wedding we’ll have a few days to capture any drone footage we need!

If I don’t want bride and groom prep, can I get a discount?

Here at Olive & Thistle, we believe in paying a fair rate to our videographers, not just because they’re the best in their field, but also because they’re a hard working team often putting in 12-14 hour days filming your wedding! When you book us for your special day you get us for the whole day, and we pay our videographers the same rate regardless of when they start. That being said, if you’d like us to not film bride and groom prep, we won’t! In fact in those cases we may stay a bit later on in the evening to catch some extra dancing to make up for the time saved in the morning!

Do you do Elopements?

We definitely do! Whether you’ve trekked all the way from America or from down the road in Anniesland, we’d be more than happy to come out to film your elopement. We do offer a discounted rate off our package price for these if they take place from Monday to Friday - just drop us an email and we’ll explain all the details! Drone footage is definitely included in this package as well!

Do you do destination weddings?

SO MUCH SO YES. We’ve already got several destination weddings booked for 2019, all the way from down in the south of England, up to Orkney and even over to the Greek Isles - we are fully equipped to travel and film your big day. Typically we’d arrive a day or two in advance of your wedding day to make sure everything is sorted locally in regards to us filming with our drone, and we stay until the day after your wedding. We do charge you our hard costs for our flights, accommodation and rental car for the duration of the trip, but the good news is we don’t charge extra on top of our base package price for weddings abroad!

Why did you get into this line of work?

We get this question a lot and I think it circles back to what I was saying at the start of this post - we love people. We love to get out, explore, eat good food, drink good drink, and simply enjoy life. We’ve always loved watching and creating films, and this job allows us to create something special for people that will cherish these moments for the rest of their lives. That means everything to us, knowing that we are able to provide that for our couples!

Needless to say, if you have any questions, just send us an email! If you’re meeting with us, make a list! The more you know about any potential videographer the better it is for both yourselves, us and the films we create.
