We are a family-run, award-winning wedding videographer team creating natural, documentary-style wedding films for couples across Edinburgh, the Lothians and beyond.
From elegant city-centre celebrations and historic Edinburgh venues to beautiful country houses just outside the city, our films are about the people and moments that make your wedding yours. The ridiculous laughs, the emotional bits, the speeches that go spectacularly off-script and all those tiny moments you didn't even realise were happening.

Who are Our Couples?
Our Edinburgh couples aren't one particular type of couple. Some are planning huge celebrations, some want something intimate and relaxed, and plenty fall somewhere in between.
Lots tell us they're awkward on camera. Some aren't particularly keen on being filmed at all. That's completely fine — we're not there to turn your wedding into a film set.
We work quietly around what's actually happening, capturing the people you love, the atmosphere and all the moments that disappear ridiculously quickly while you're busy getting married.
The result isn't a performance of your wedding day. It's a way of going back and experiencing what it actually felt like.

Getting Married in Edinburgh?
There aren't many cities that give you quite the backdrop Edinburgh does. Historic streets, incredible architecture, grand hotels, hidden courtyards and some spectacular countryside just beyond the city — there's an enormous amount of variety packed into a relatively small area.
We've filmed weddings throughout Edinburgh and the Lothians, from celebrations right in the heart of the city to beautiful estates and country houses further out.
Over the years we've filmed at venues including The Balmoral, Mansfield Traquair, Carlowrie Castle, Dundas Castle and Dalmahoy, along with many others across Edinburgh and the surrounding area.
City weddings also come with their own particular quirks. Tourists, traffic, cobbled streets and the occasional person wandering enthusiastically through the background are all part of the fun. We're used to working around whatever is happening without turning your wedding day into a production.
Our documentary approach means we're looking for the moments that actually matter — the reactions, conversations, laughter and tiny interactions happening around you — while letting you get on with having your wedding.

Who are we?
Olive & Thistle was founded by two Canadians happily based in the west of Scotland for 10 years now, filming weddings all over Scotland, the UK, Europe and the World. Before that we worked in the Television and Radio industries for over a decade, and enjoyed working with each other so much we decided to get married ourselves! With our 11 year-old son and a scrappy cavapoo named Waffles we are proudly a family-run business. (Though the dog does little-to-no admin).

How much does an Edinburgh wedding videographer cost?
Our all-inclusive full coverage wedding package is £2,250, with two videographers covering your day from preparations until the third dance. Elopement, twilight and single-videographer packages are available from £1,500.
Do you travel throughout Edinburgh and the Lothians?
Absolutely. We regularly film weddings throughout Edinburgh, East Lothian, West Lothian and the surrounding areas, as well as travelling throughout Scotland, the UK and further afield.
We're awkward on camera. Is that a problem?
Not remotely. Lots of our couples tell us exactly the same thing. Our documentary approach means you won't spend your wedding day performing for us — we'd much rather capture what's actually happening.
Have you filmed at our Edinburgh wedding venue before?
Quite possibly! We've filmed at venues throughout Edinburgh and the Lothians. Tell us where you're getting married when you enquire and, if we've been there before, we'll happily show you relevant work. If we haven't, that's no problem either — we love filming somewhere new.
Do you work alongside our photographer?
Yes. We regularly work alongside photographers and approach the day as a team. We're all there for the same reason: to give you brilliant memories without turning your wedding into a photoshoot or film set.
Can you use a drone at Edinburgh wedding venues?
Drone filming is included in our full wedding package where it can be flown safely and legally. Weather, airspace and individual venue restrictions can sometimes mean flying isn't possible on the day.
How long are you there on our wedding day?
Our full coverage package includes two videographers from preparations through to the third dance, so we're there for considerably more than just the ceremony.
What films do we receive?
Our full package includes a 3–5 minute highlights film, a full 45–90 minute wedding film containing your ceremony and speeches, a 30-second teaser and a 60-second vertical social film.
